Layne Toth: Warrior Princess
She's been called the hardest working kid in comics and with good reason. At just nine years old, Layne Toth has a few comics out and has appeared on television, art shows, and comic conventions to promote her craft. Her newest series, Faith: Warrior Princess, is in stores now, and we caught up with her for a quick 13 questions.
1. How much of you is in your title character, Faith Warrior Princess?
Faith tries to do the right thing and loves her sister & grammy a lot, just like me.
2. What's your favorite flavor ice-cream?
Any flavor ice-cream drawn by my artist pal Levi Krause is my favorite! Just try to get him to draw an ice-cream cone for less than 100 bucks (inside joke)! By the way, it’s black cherry.
3. What's the silliest costume you've ever worn for Halloween?
I was Granny and my pa was Jed from The Beverly Hillbillies for Halloween 2001. We sent a picture to Buddy Ebsen who signed it and sent it back to us along with another signed photo of him as Jed!
4. What's your favorite movie?
Right now, my favorite movie is The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe and I love the book. I like Spider-Man, Daredevil, Batman Begins and Night Of The Living Dead because I’m friends with co-writer John Russo and actor Russ Streiner. John Russo & his family were visiting us the day my little sister Peri was born!
5. If you could spend time with any one comics creator and learn as much as possible in that time, which creator would you choose? Why?
I’m already working with and learning from my comic book mentors Chris Yambar, Levi Krause & George Broderick, Jr. Besides them, I would like to hang out with Alex Toth because he has such a cool last name among the obvious reasons!
6. What do you enjoy the most about going to comic conventions?
I most enjoy seeing what other creators have out at the cons.
7. What's your favorite cartoon?
My favorite cartoons at this time are: The Simpsons, Teen Titans, Spongebob Squarepants, Powerpuff Girls, Totally Spies, Spider-Man and Samurai Jack.
8. When you're not drawing or working on comics, what do you do for fun?
I play games with my family & friends. I like going to movies, comic shops, museums, malls, arcades, bookstores, junk shops, libraries and I like to shoot guns!
9. What do you like on your pizza?
I like pepperoni, bacon, mushrooms, green pepper and especially black olives on my pizza!
10. When's your birthday?
November 4th, 1996.
11. Do you have any pets?
Nope, I don’t have any pets but I used to have some fish. My sister Peri has a mechanical dog named Tekno which our pa says is our family pet!
12. What school subject gives you the most trouble?
Math!
13. What conventions are you going to this year?
Pittsburgh Comicon (April 21-23), Motor City Comic Con (May 19-21), Comic-Con International San Diego (July 19-23), Wizard World Chicago (August 3-6), Canadian National Comic Book Expo (September 1-3), Motor City Comic Con (fall 2006), Mid-Ohio-Con (November 25-26). |
