Pinned on the GoonEric Powell
Whether it's creating Dark Horse's The Goon or playing around in the Marvel Universe, Eric Powell always leaves a distinctive mark on any project he's involved with. After being cornered by Sequential Tart, we managed to pin him down long enough to get his take on these 13 Questions and his thoughts on the cover he created for this issue.
1. What's the yuckiest thing you've ever eaten? Why did you eat it?
Well, I was lonely and he offered me fifty ... OH! I get it now. Food. Duh! Uhm. I ate a big plate of raw salmon in France. It wasn't yucky. In fact, it tasted fine. But the texture was a little tough to get used to considering I had never even eaten sushi before.
2. If you could sing a duet with any singer, who would you choose? Why?
Siouxsie Sioux, and we would sing "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" by Creedence Clear Water Revival ... her or Shakira. But it wouldn't matter what the song is with Shakira because I wouldn't be singing ... just watching her shake her butt around.
3. What's your favorite summer activity?
Pantsing old people. Because they're very slow and look really ridiculous with their pants around their ankles.
4. When you were little what television shows did you have to sneak around to watch? Why?
I watched everything. I had no parental restrictions.
5. Wonder Woman or Xena Warrior Princess?
WW or Xena what? That question is too vague and leaves me open to dangerous insinuations.
6. If you were a pet, what kind of animal would you be? Why?
I would be a big fat lazy insecure cowardly hound dog. Because other than the dog part, that pretty much sums me up.
7. Sprite or Ginger Ale?
THESE QUESTIONS ARE CLEARLY ENTRAPMENT!! PERVERTS!!
8. What's your lucky number?
17384598573639398470346094573750 and a half.
9. Bo or Luke Duke?
Bo is so dreamy! WAIT A MINUTE!!! SEE!!! ENTRAPMENT!!!!
10. What's your cell phone ring tones?
The Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho theme.
11. What old movie or television series do you wish they'd modernize or remake?
I wish they would remake the Andy Griffith show a la Deadwood. With lots of swearing and sex.
12. What's your sign? And do you believe in horoscopes guiding your path?
I am a Pisces. And no, I am a skeptic.
13. Which Muppet is most like you? Why?
I am both old angry balcony men combined in to one giant cynical asshole.
Regarding the cover, Powell said, "When someone says 'tart' I think of two things. Breakfast pastry and a specific kind of lady. And sometimes a woman wearing pastries. But I'm not getting into that here because my shrink says that's an unhealthy fantasy and I should stop fixating on the mental image of Raquel Welch and her naughty parts covered in doughnuts and that I should stop bringing it up at every session and that it's been three years and why won't I stop talking about Raquel's doughnuts ... I kid. But seriously, the word tart brings to mind style, confidence, and attitude. To me anyway. In my cover I wanted to invoke a classy dame look with a little bit of a modern flair. So I pictured a woman who was obsessed with Audrey Hepburn and liked vinyl. That's about it." |
